Chief Executive Officer of Renault Sport F1 has revealed that a further three car manufacturers could enter Formula One in 2013 when engine rules changes come into effect. Jean-Francois Caubet revealed that Volkswagen, Honda and Hyndai could start competing for motorsport’s biggest prize in the not so distant future.

F1 ENGINES

Caubet revealed that "Volkswagen, Honda, and Hyundai" would be interested in joining the sport once 1.6 litre 4 cylinder turbocharged engines replace the current 2.4 litre V8s. The move, initiated by President and CEO of Formula One Management and Formula One Administration Bernie Ecclestone, is aimed at increasing fuel efficiency by up to 50 percent while keep total power output at around 750bhp. Increasingly it seems, several car manufacturers have expressed renewed interest in the sport after a new generation of fuel restricted 'green' engines will make their debut in 2013.

Currently, Renault Sport F1 supplies engines to Renault, Team Lotus, and Red Bull - who won the inaugural race of the 2011 Formula One season at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia, under the expert guidance of its RB7 car by reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Caubet said that these manufacturers would remain cautious when considering involvement in F1. “I don't think they will come in the first year, because that would be difficult for a car manufacturer," he told motorsport-total.com. "Maybe later."

Currently, 3D technology is the consumer electronics industry's biggest trend. Televisions and video games are entering the market at a staggering rate so it was only a matter of time before 3D smartphones appeared too. LG recently unveiled its Optimus 3D handset, the world's first smartphone on which you can watch 3D images without the need for glasses. HTC are also entering the market as Sprint revealed the Evo 3D on the first day of CTIA 2011. So is 3D smartphone technology going to revolutionise the way we interact with mobile devices?

LG Optimus 3D

According to Expansys, the LG Optimus 3D will be available from Monday 25 April at a price of £514.99. Even though the LG Optimus is the world's first 3D smartphone, users have the ability to switch between 3D and 2D content thanks to a dedicated button on the side of the handset. The Optimus 3D uses clever technology called the parallax barrier to show the user's left and right eyes slightly different images, which brings images, movies and games to life.

The LG Optimus 3D also features a dual-core processor, a 4.3 inch WVA resolution touchscreen, and two five megapixel cameras which lets the user capture 3D photos or videos in 720p HD quality. All this hardware is supported by three pre-installed games developed by Gameloft; Nova, Let's Golf 2 and Asphalt 6. Consumers can also access YouTube 3D, watching and uploading videos instantly.

First it was the iPad 2, however now technology fans around the world are turning their attention to Apple's iPhone 5 which looks set to be released later this year. Speculation and rumours are everywhere on the latest iPhone's design and technology specifications, whether it be information on processor ability or leaked pictures of the device itself. Manufacturing Digital takes a look at the latest developments of the Apple iPhone 5.

DESIGN

Leaked images of the iPhone 5 have appeared courtesy of iDealsChina, who previously released accurate designs of the 4th generation iPod Nano. The only real major physical difference is the screen, with the edges running even closer to the phone's main casing.

This latest image reinforces a recent leaked photo from the same source in China which showed the iPhone 5's bezel. Although not official, the picture also reveals the main design will stay the same and not have a curved back like the iPhone 3GS, however Apple may think about changing the frame and antenna due to widely publicised signal problems.

TECHNOLOGY

Engineering firm Boston Dynamics has won a multi-million dollar contract to develop two futuristic battlefield bots, a robotic cheetah and a human-like robot, for the Department of Defence.
Boston Dynamics have said that its Terminator-like robot robot, Atlas, will have two arms and legs, but no head, and be able to walk and jog upright, climb and squeeze through narrow alleyways and use its hands.
Meanwhile, its robotic Cheetah will be able to outrun any human being and in addition to walking and sprinting on four legs will be designed to turn corners, zig-zag and start and stop on command.
The robo-cat, which is currently being manufactured, is hoping to be ready in 20 months. Engineers believe the prototype will be able to run 30mph. However, it believes it will eventually be able to reach speeds of 70mph.
The robotic Cheetah will seems to be suited for chasing down enemy prey but the company said it was more interested in advancing the technology of the robo-cat, than developing its battlefield responsibilities.

Indian inventor unveils flying Maruti concept car

Indian inventor, A.K. Vishwanath, has claimed to have made a flying car from an ordinary 800cc Maruti car.
The car was developed by Vishwanath's company, B'Lorean, named after his home of Bangalore and the winged DeLorean sports car of the 1980s, famously used as a time machine in Hollywood's Back To The Future series of films.
The 52-year-old claims his inspiration for the concept car came from flying bees.
He has told reporters that the flying Maruti car is powered initially by an electrical generator, after which its engine pumps out so-called 'energy flows' which provide lift-off and cruising.
The car has rotor blades affixed to the roof with extended wheel arches creating a 'vacuum section.'
Vishwanath has spent 16 years working on the flying car, on which he has garnered 40 patents.
However, the car which has undergone numerous testing in wind tunnels has not actually flown, leaving many skeptical about its potential.
Nevertheless, the flying car became the star attraction at the Aero India 2011 air show in Bangalore recently.

The Chastity Garter, which was launched on BBC TV show Dragon’s Den last year, will send a text message to a suspicious partner if their girlfriend tries to cheat on them.
The garter, which has two designs - Chastity Lace and Chastity Silk - contains a microchip that monitors the heart rate from the femoral (thigh) artery in real time as well as surface moisture.
When the garter detects these apparent signals of sexual stimulation occur, an automatic text message is sent to alert the woman's partner that she may be straying.
The device does the same if the garter is removed at any point.
The team behind the idea is Edward and Lucinda Hale, who came up with the idea after infidelity threatened their own relationship.
"A few years ago our relationship nearly fell apart when Lucinda cheated with another man. She told me how much she regretted it and wished there was a way of removing the temptation by making the act of straying impossible to go through with," said Edward Hale.
"So we set about designing a product which would help us - and more importantly help millions of other couples around the world in need of extra reassurance that their wife or girlfriend is being chaste."
